We say “me” and “my” and “mine.” We live each day, for the most part, feeling as if we are separate, independent beings. But occasionally, that sense of separateness falls away. Our very life, our very breath, we realize, depends entirely on what is not “me.” A sweet, beautiful, confusing openness washes over us. A wonder and a mystery more intricate and gorgeous than we have ever imagined appears, as if it had been there always, hidden in plain sight. The natural world of trees, grasses, rivers, oceans, sand and soil interlaces with our own warm, living body. Meditative contemplation softens the heart, expanding us into this rich, more than “me” home called earth.
