Again and again in life, we find ourselves in situations in which we have no clue, no idea of what to do. Whatever direction we move in, whatever alternative we consider, goes nowhere. A chess player might call this predicament “checkmate”. This type of paralysis occurs not only in our outer, physical-material world, but also inside, in our thoughts and emotions. We may be experiencing over and over an emotion we can’t stand, a thought that won’t leave us alone. Such times quickly arouse anxiety, overwhelm, and desperation: “I’ve got to do something now” our panic screams. But nowhere we turn offers relief, and we know this. What do we do?
